The much anticipated ice update is ….wait for it….we are gaining!  Who would have thought that last Thursday when we had 0 inches of ice that I would walk across four mile bay and stake a trail to Pine Island today Tuesday Dec. 22?  I guess that’s Mother Nature for you!

Anyway, I measured anywhere from 4-5 inches of ice across the bay and the lake consisted of 2- 7 inches.  The “rough ice” spots on the lake were the ones where the ice really varied.  Unfortunately with the snow we are getting tonight and the warm temperatures I am not sure how much ice we will gain.  Temperatures are supposed to dip again on Thursday so hopefully we will continue to gain ice by the weekend.

We are going to be out there every day checking the conditions and hoping for the best.  Tentatively we are shooting for Monday the 28th as our start date, but that could change depending the conditions.  Safety is our main concern and with the ice varying on the lake side we will be very cautious as to not get too ramie.  Again, I measured almost 7 inches in some spots and only feet away I would find 2 inches. Point is to be careful and make sure you know where you are going out there!

Stay tuned as I will continue with updates as we get closer.

Merry Christmas!
