October 'eyes...

Hello sportsfans. And welcome to the weekly spackle here on the south shore of Lake of the Woods.

To date we continue to see a mix of rain, sun, wind, clouds, and all of the above. And with that... The bite has been as mixed as the weather.

Some good. And some not so good.

This week we are looking at low temps in the 30-40 range. And high's in the 50-60 mark.

The trophy bite spiked on Saturday when the guided charters boasted (5) walleyes that were over 29 inches. Certainly a big fish day no matter what lake you tackle.

It's been a jig-a-thon very similar to what we've been experiencing all summer. And now here we are with the start of the fall fishing season. Not much change in that respect. Still good numbers of fish.

Another highlight for the week was the fact that we are now seeing a fair amount of emerald lake shiners entering the confines of the Rainy River. A sign of what's to come... The annual walleye migration.

The pattern and locations have stayed fairly consistent. South shore bite goes from Pine on over to Zippel. And the north sector of Big Traverse is holding fish near Bridges and Garden.

As the temps continue to cool we will test the waters of the Rainy and see what she has to offer in the way of walleyes. Right now it's still a bit early for the river bite.

Til next time. Keep moving with the weather. As do the walleyes.

The great chase continues.
