Prioritize Your Day To Day Activities

There was an article that came out last week suggesting how to prioritize your day to day activities (will get to the fishing report).
Listed in order were FIVE suggestions:
– Family
– Spouse
– Physical and Mental wellness
– Career
– Friends
The basic concept addressed “balancing” each of these categories to create a better sense of wholeness.  If you are doing too much of one…  And not enough of the other…  Then it might be time to pump the breaks and concentrate on balance.
This might not be an earth shattering concept but it does make sense.  We see people accomplish “BALANCE” here at Ballard’s Resort every day.  And it’s called FISHING!
For sure you can check 2-3 of the boxes listed above by simply wetting a line.  So if it is time for you to prioritize…  Let’s set the hook!
THE FISHING…  This past week was once again respectably consistent on the ice.  Honestly, much improved from last season.
We have been able to find fish closer to home on the south shore.  Right now the shacks are split east to west with one cluster north of the Morris Gap and the second grouping north of the Lighthouse Gap.
It’s been a horse a piece from day to day, but west has been slightly out producing catch and keep numbers.
We are using a combo of the jeeps / people wagons to transport fishermen…  Along with starting to use the Bombardiers.  Eighteen to twenty inches of ice…  Thirty feet of water.
HEY!!!  We turn the calendar into February this week!!!  Time to keep moving and keep ice fishing.  Join us if you can.

Some like to Polka

One-two-three…  One-two-three…

It was extremely awkward (middle school dance class) keeping time with the music, holding hands with a partner, and sweating profusely through the pits of your shirt.

One-two-three…  One-two-three…

It was at this juncture of a pubescent dancing career a realization came that some like to Polka and others like to JIG! (as in for walleyes)

One-two-three…  One-two-three…

The latest and greatest in the world of walleye fishing?  Similar to the dance partner’s feet…  We’re on ’em, we’re not on ’em, we’re on ’em.

One-two-three…  One-two-three…

This past week started out with a BANGER with some 500+ fish days in the cleaning shack.  The type of whack and stack numbers we have not seen in quite a while (for sure this season).

One-two-three…  One-two-three…

About 2 miles offshore, once the action slowed, it was once again time to bump and run with the shacks.

One-two-three…  One-two-three…

The second move of the week was not as productive.  Yes, still catching walleye sauger enough for FRESH FISH.  But hey (in the words of Joe Lorenzen) we can always do better.

One-two-three…  One-two-three…

Keep dancing, keep moving, the third push of the week with the fish houses hit the whammy mark once again!  Solid numbers of fish make for happy Ballard’s guides and even happier anglers!

Some like to Polka…  Others like to JIG…

HAVING FUN ON L-O-DUB

“Get it on, bang a gong, get it on”.  Thanks Marc Bolan and T. Rex don’t mind if we do!

Hey sports fans, the action for TEAM BALLARD’S has been fantastic these past few days.

Now that our guides have been able to push out to 30ft of water, approx 2-miles offshore, our success rate has been much improved.  Good news for those who want fast action.  Bad news for the walleyes and saugers!

Sub-zero temps continue to make ice here at Lake of the Woods.  Our mode of transport continues to be the small sized jeeps and heated passenger trailers.  We are a short drive from the main lodge at the resort, out to the fleet of fish houses.

For this week…  More COLD and hopefully more FISH.  We are having fun on L-O-Dub.

Set the hook!

FRESH – WILD – WALLEYES

Hello Sportsfans and welcome to the weekly Sunday Fishing Post with Ballard’s Resort!

What’s new and exciting?

– Ice fishing is in full swing.  FRESH – WILD – WALLEYES.
– With 12″-13″ of ice we are chasing fish in the 20ft range of water on the west end of Pine Island approximately one-mile offshore.
– The word from the guides this morning is “let’s keep bumping and moving” our shacks.  Sounds like the plan is to stretch our fleet of houses a bit deeper to approx 23ft and see how it goes.
–  FISH TACOS…  Yep!  Saw lots being served in the tavern last night.  Always a GOOD sign that anglers are having some success.
– BIG FISH for this past week was the Fritsche group with a tank just under 28″.  And reports of a few DINOS (lake sturgeon) being wrestled up to the ice fishing holes.

– Mark your calendar: early previews for our KFAN RADIO (Summer Fishing Specials) will be going live on our social media platforms JANUARY 15 stay tuned.

Until next week…  Set the hook!
