Welcome back Sportsfans! Time for another great walleye season here on Lake of the Woods! The weather has been phenomenal the last few days with one of the best opening weekends, weather wise, in the last few years. Except for a couple of days of much needed rain, the future forecast looks just as good!

Now on to the fishing! There were mixed reports from the guides with some boats doing really well, and others not so much. There were some fish being caught in the river but with low water levels and little flow, many guides opted for the lake. The key to the lake is patience. Fish were being caught in anywhere from 15′-23′ of water. Boats were anchored and jigging waiting for schools to move through. The size of the fish was a mixed bag which included small fish, plenty of eaters, a few slots, and even a couple trophy fish thrown into the mix. The go to bait was a frozen shiner with your classic gold, white, or chartreuse jig.

There are still plenty of openings this summer so be sure to get up here and set the hook!
