December

Hello Sportsfans…

The million dollar question:  “When are we going to have ice?”

Yes…  We are all waiting patiently for Old Man Winter to clamp down on LOW.

Currently:  There is no ice on the main lake or the main river channel.  Surface water temps are hovering at the freezing mark…  So we are getting close.

Weather:  The ten-day forecast is calling for highs in the 20’s and lows in the teen’s.  Hopefully that will be enough to put the initial cap over the main basin in the next few days.  Once that does happen, and if it does stay cold (lots of variables when you’re making ice HA!), history would tell us it usually takes another ten to fourteen days before we can get out and start fishing.  Obviously every year is different…

Prediction:  Placing all bets aside…  Right now, here at Ballard’s Resort, we hoping to make December 26 as a “go-date”.  That’s two weeks out…  A lot can happen between now and then.  The best we can do is to keep you posted every couple of days.

History:  Looking back, if memory serves, it’s been two-times in the past twenty-five years that we haven’t starting fishing until after Christmas.  So it does happen on occasion…

Let’s keep thinking winter…

Set the hook!
