MARCH 1

Hey Sportfans

How on earth is it already March? We cannot believe that its already that time of the season. Our final day on the ice is set for March 11th, which means the countdown is officially on. If you’ve been thinking about one more trip you’d better make it happen soon. There’s still time to get your fishing fix in, but the window is closing fast.

We’ve definitely been reminded that it’s still winter, though! “It’s good to hear the phone ring”—especially after our power was out for about an hour on Friday due to the huge wind gust that swept through Lake of the Woods. The gusts were no joke. A huge thank you goes out to our fierce fishers who didn’t let the blustery conditions slow them down. They bundled up, hunkered down, and braved the elements.

Other than that, Ballard’s Resort is continually finding ways to stay busy. The guides on the lake have been working hard moving houses back toward shore. With warmer weather creating a large pressure crack, we’ve decided to play it safe and reposition. We always want to stay cautious and ahead of changing ice conditions. Posted currently about 10 miles out.

Reports are showing a great mix of fish being caught, including walleye, sauger, northern pike, and tullibee.

The weather app is projecting mid-30s to low 40s next week. At this rate, we might be fishing in shorts with sunscreen on before we know it!

FEBRUARY 22

Hey Sportsfans,

We are cruising toward the grand finale of our season — how did that happen so fast?!

Things have slowed down on the lake, giving it that peaceful, end-of-season magic. The fish? Well… let’s just say they’ve decided to be a little “exclusive” lately. Apparently even our legendary snacks aren’t tempting enough right now — and trust us, we bring the good stuff!

We have had a couple of mighty fishers reel up some northerns which is always fun to see.

And here’s the best part — word on the street is that if you’re coming back for your second trip in March, you unlock a special deal. Yes, you heard that right. A special deal! And honestly… who doesn’t love a little bonus for coming back for more?

We’re not done yet — let’s finish this season strong and have some fun while we’re at it!

FEBRUARY 16

February 16th, 2026

Hey Sportsfans,

Another week has passed and we’re already halfway through the month — crazy how fast time flies!

The temperatures and weather have been all over the place lately, but this week we’re expecting to see highs in the upper 20s and low 30s, which should make for some beautiful days out on the water.

Fishing has been pretty consistent. We’re still set up north of the bridges and around the reefs, and those areas continue to produce. The bite has been steady, especially during the warmer parts of the day.

Perch are still a hot commodity, and they’ve been keeping anglers busy. A few lucky fishers have also been reeling in some slot fish, which always makes for a great day and some exciting stories at the end of the trip.

If the weather holds and the patterns stay steady, we’re looking forward to another strong stretch of fishing ahead!

FEBRUARY 8

Hey Sportsfans,

This past week has been a great one, highlighted by our first successful walleye connection of the season.

Now, on to the information you really care about. The perch bite is hot, which is crazy considering the time of year. Mer Rolin, who is coming up on his 30th year with us, says he has never seen this many perch.

Our houses were shifted around the northern bridges area during the middle part of the week to better stay on the fish and get in on the action.

The bite has remained consistent, just not quite as busy. Maybe if your as lucky as one of this weeks fishers you could even reel up a Northern.

For those wondering about ice conditions, we are currently sitting on 30 inches of ice. Be sure you have extensions for your LiveScope setups.
