Fall Run Means Fall FUN!!

Hey Sportsfans!!!

We’ve had an outstanding September with many of our friends year after year…thanks so much for coming up and SETTING THE HOOK!

What’s the latest and greatest on LOTW?

We have been moving around the lake looking for the traditional fall walleye bite. The best luck?? Anchoring up in 24’-26’ of water in Big Traverse Bay…jigging!!! The best colors tend to be, of course, gold but we’ve also been having luck on glow white & pink. Our guide boats haven’t given up on going North yet. They have been drifting and pulling hammer gold spinners up near Little Oak & Garden Island. Neither one nor the other has been more productive…so why not mix it up!

And for this weather!! It’s hard to believe it has been as good as it has for the month of September. We have been seeing highs in the 60’s and lows in the 40’s…and we are anticipating nice weather for the next few weeks. As of this morning the water temperature is sitting at 62Tyler APH degrees on the main lake. We have seen a few emerald shiners run up river, but the water temperature is still too warm for the traditional fall run.  You know what that means; you still have time to come up and hopefully hit that fall walleye river run!

We still have lodging and fishing packages available for the month of October…

Come if you can and SET THE HOOK!!!

Drifting Away…

Hello and welcome to the weekly (well semi-weekly) blast on LODub!

Here’s the skinny on the walleye bite…..it has been great!

The action has been tremendous with lots of good eater size fish (15-18″) with an occasional slot walleye.  I recall catching 21 fish on one drift this past week…Now that is what I call ridiculous! We have been pulling crawlers, minnows, and even some leeches on hammered gold spinners over the rubble rock ranging from 18-25 feet.

As always we are very lucky to call Lake of the Woods home as it keeps producing great numbers of fish day after day!

Pictured below is the Schmidt crew after enjoying shore lunch on a beautiful day at Garden Island.

Until next time…Get up here, Enjoy the last few weeks of Summer, and…

SET THE HOOK!

Boom!!

Greetings Sportsfans!

Boom goes the tree…we had some strong winds last night and throughout today. “Hold on to your hats, it’s rough out there!”

Fishing has continued to be steady up around Garden Island and beyond. We are still pulling spinners and drifting, as a matter of fact we just put in for another order of 100 dozen spinners—that should last for a good week or so…

We had a half day fishing trip this week that gave it a whirl over West, near Zippel Bay, and did quite well. They caught several slot fish and also hooked into some nice eaters by drifting and pulling spinners in the mud.

Yesterday we had this beautiful 31.25” walleye brought in on Captain Andy’s boat…Congratulations to Bazz from Shakopee. You know what they say…Big wind, BIG FISH!!!

Rain, Rain go away!

Hey Sportsfans!

Rain, rain go away…It seems like we can’t out smart mother nature…we, along with most of the state of Minnesota, have been experiencing some pretty nasty storms over the last week. We have gotten plenty of rain, but lucked out on the timing.  It hasn’t affected our typical fishing day (8a-5p) too much!

Our guide boats still seem to point North each day and end up around Knight, Bridges, Garden and even up to Little Oak and beyond. We are seeing a good mix of walleyes, sauger and that occasional TROPHY WALLEYE that sneaks onto the boat.

Spinners, spinners and more spinners…that tends to be the choice of tackle…the hot colors have been chartreuse and hammer gold, stick a night crawler or minnow on the end and drift away…

We hope you have a chance to run up before the school year begins. We have lodging and fishing packages available during the month of August. Give us a call and let’s plan your next vacation!

Until next time…SET THE HOOK!!!
