Rain, Rain go away!

Hey Sportsfans!

Rain, rain go away…It seems like we can’t out smart mother nature…we, along with most of the state of Minnesota, have been experiencing some pretty nasty storms over the last week. We have gotten plenty of rain, but lucked out on the timing.  It hasn’t affected our typical fishing day (8a-5p) too much!

Our guide boats still seem to point North each day and end up around Knight, Bridges, Garden and even up to Little Oak and beyond. We are seeing a good mix of walleyes, sauger and that occasional TROPHY WALLEYE that sneaks onto the boat.

Spinners, spinners and more spinners…that tends to be the choice of tackle…the hot colors have been chartreuse and hammer gold, stick a night crawler or minnow on the end and drift away…

We hope you have a chance to run up before the school year begins. We have lodging and fishing packages available during the month of August. Give us a call and let’s plan your next vacation!

Until next time…SET THE HOOK!!!

BOOM….BANG…POW…the walleye bite on Lake of the Woods is as hot as the fireworks on the 4th of July!!!!

It feels like the 4th of July weekend in more ways than one! The excitement is in the air…and in the lake! This past week the May Flies, or better known as “Fish Flies”, hatched. We are seeing that the fish are full of them and you know what that means…TREMENDOUS FISHING!!!!

Overall, fishing has been great! We are seeing the best luck in shallow water anywhere from 8-15 feet. The bite has continued to be most successful drifting and pulling spinners over the rock rubble near Garden Island. Lure of choice is a gold spinner with leeches or crawlers.

We, and when I say “we” I mean Joe from Dyersville, IA pulled in the largest walleye of the season from a Ballard’s charter boat. The last day of June we saw this beautiful 31.25” walleye…check it out!!Andy & Joe--Schmitz

We hope everyone has a fun and safe holiday weekend!

Until next time…SET THE HOOK!!!

Here, There, and Everywhere…

Greetings Sportsfans and welcome to the weekly blast at Ballard’s Resort!

Here, There and Everywhere…That seems to be the trend of the week… The good news?!  The bite has picked up…The flip side is they’re here, there and (almost) everywhere.

The main success has been drifting gold spinners across the sand bars of the Big Traverse… whether it be Pine Island or Garden Island…Lake of the Woods is healthy!

Water temperatures are still hovering around 65 degrees and the forecast for the week ahead looks favorable.

There’s no time better than now to get up here and…

SET THE HOOK!

The week of 3’s…

6/11/15

Hello Sportsfans and welcome to the weekly reel at Ballard’s.

The week of 3’s…and what a week it has been!

We kicked off celebrating Miah’s 3rd Birthday…that’s right THREE years old celebrating at Ballard’s Resort with mom, dad, big brother, grandpa & grandma and of course Capt. Tyler.  Way to go Miah!

Wednesday this trio of gals had a nice triple…and Aileen wins the award for furthest traveled coming in from Germany…Setzen Sie den Haken…Way to “Set the Hook” girls!

The week has brought beautiful weather, plentiful sunshine and an abundance of WALLEYES!  That’s right, things seem to be turning around and I’ve heard from several groups this week that their day of fishing has been FANTASTIC!  Reports of 15-25 slot fish, plenty to eat and take home.  Anchored up and jigging the rock piles North and surrounding Garden Island still seem to be the most productive.

If you’re fishing on your own, the evening bite toward Morris Point Gap has been quite productive…going through a bag of shiners in an hour productive, that is!

With a favorable weekly forecast and hungry walleyes…it’s time to get up here and…

Setzen Sie den Haken!
