Walleye Chop

Hello Sportsfans! Time for the weekly walleye report here on Lake of the Woods!

Water temperatures are starting to warm up a bit getting up into the mid to high 60’s. Fish are being found all over but seem to be more concentrated in deeper water, 30 + feet. The guides are still grinding the jig bite, but are slowly starting to transition to pulling spinners. They’ve been pushing up north when the weather allows, which has been pretty consistent lately with some pretty warm days. The wind has been pretty light lately which can make the bugs a pain, but when the fishing is as good as it has been it’s hard to complain.

Lot’s of good eater fish being caught in the 17″-19″ range. Still seeing quite a few lower end slot fish as well. The bigger fish are still out there with a few being brought up, but they really make you work for ’em. The go to color jig is, of course, gold with a frozen shiner as bait. When they’ve been pulling spinners the guides rig up with a crawler.

The past week may not have been one for the record books, but it was still a productive week numbers wise, with a majority of people headed home with a limit.

There is still plenty of summer left so be sure to get out there and Set the Hook!
