What’s With This Weather?

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1582514038484{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]Hey Sportsfans!

What the problem is with this weather… is that it is BEAUTIFUL for ice fishing on Lake of the Woods, who can complain about sunny 20+ degree days? Fishing hasn’t been to shabby either with plenty of fish being caught, we wish we could get our average size up a little on the saugers, but dinner is STILL being served! We are set up in one of our favorite locations on Lake of the Woods, KNIGHT ISLAND!

Fishing hasn’t had a solid pattern between morning bite, afternoon bite or closer to evening heck we’ve had houses catching fish left and right all day while some seem to be on the dead sea!

But we are having luck with the basic’s small presentations. Smaller jigs with big hooks tipped with a live minnow sitting on a bobber 6-12 inches of the bottom. In the meantime, jigging with a smaller buck shot (color hasn’t been decided but BRIGHT) tipped with just the head of the minnow!

Bombers are still about an hour ride each way so dress in layers!

We are excited to have a GREAT late ice season!

It Took a Fort Night But We Made It!

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1581894655048{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]Hey Sportsfans!

Well the people have been asking and WAITING for this announcement: WE HAVE OFFICIALLY MADE IT TO KNIGHT ISLAND on Lake of the Woods!

Fishing has been sporadic with some guests filling the buckets effortlessly with dinner walleye and saugers with other guests having to work to cover the bottom,  a lot of attention need to feel out very soft bites!

Our houses are roughly 17 miles out, and in 32-34 feet of water sitting on 28-32 inches of hard ice (no slush)

For the hot tackle tip: Bright orange and yellow glowing buck shots sized between small and medium have been doing very well!

Make sure to plan your trip out to Knight Island with Ballard’s this winter season!

Winter Going Strong, But Spring is COMING!

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1581365174929{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]Hey Sportsfans!

Beautiful weather out on Lake of the Woods the, might I add fishing has been beautiful as well!

I hate sounding like a broken record, but when I say consistent, I mean consistent!!

Fishing has definitely been consistent for us, a lot of smaller sauger being caught (perfect dinner size) with occasional nice keeper Lake of the Woods walleyes coming through (about 15-17” in size.) fish are still holding close to the bottom of the lake, but make sure to have that flasher in the water to see the high flyers!

Ballard’s Ice houses: 14-16 miles out from Pine Island and fishing in about 32-34 feet of water! Ice conditions to and from our houses have been ideal, over 26 inches of ice and DRY!

Hot jigs: Wonder bread buck shots, and orange rattling spoons! Haven’t noticed a favorite dead stick color but make sure that minnow is alive! Last but not least YOU GUESSED IT- anything gold or pink!

We do have some openings left for March late season ice fishing! but make sure to give us a call and get in on some OPEN WATER FISHING with us this spring!

Phil Predicted an Early Spring… We Hope Not!

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1580677427276{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]Hey Sportsfans!

Good afternoon! We have made yet another little push out on Lake of the Woods, our houses are ranging from 13-15 miles from Pine Island overlooking beautiful Canada! (but don’t worry still only Minnesota fishing license needed to fish with us!) The Ballard houses are out on the mud flats yet and keeping our guests entertained!

Out on the flats there hasn’t been a consistent “hot” house location.

Our houses are still in about 32-34 feet of water, dead sticks proving just as efficient as the jig sticks. Majority of fish being caught have been saugers on the smaller side with the lone walleye here and there. The “slot” and “over” walleyes have been targeted by watching for a mark on the flasher 3-6 feet off the bottom. HOT JIG COLORS: Gold, Pink, wonder bread, anything that rattles, or glows doesn’t hurt either. Big shocker huh? 😉

Make sure to give us a call for some March ice fishing, still some great spots open to chase that late season TROPHY!
