JANUARY 19 ICE FISHING REPORT — LAKE OF THE WOODS

Hey Sportsfans!

After a few days of hard work, the guides have shifted the entire fleet of houses east (7 miles past Pine Island).

Even through the cold snap, we continue to hear reports of good fishing. Seeing buckets of nice size keepers, plus rumors of slot fish, from most houses at the end of the day.

Successful Presentations:

1) A tungsten buck shot spoon with a minnow head

2) Deadstick Option – Red 1/8oz jig with active minnow

Most reports claim to catch more while jigging than with a deadstick.

Keep an eye on your electronics… We have seen a number of active, suspended fish. To hit bottom, you are looking at roughly 30′ of water.

Due to high winds, and whiteout conditions, we made the switch to bombers on Friday afternoon.

DECEMBER 29TH ICE FISHING REPORT – BALLARD’S RESORT

LAKE OF THE WOODS ICE FISHING! BALLARD'S RESORT! DECEMBER WALLEYE FISHING!
Hey Sportsfans!

It’s WINTER BREAK at Ballard’s Resort!

We have had a number of families join us this week while the kids are out of school… Can’t beat that! BIG smiles all around while the kids spill the fish stories… According to them, the fishing is “LIT”.

The guides have continued to monitor the ice conditions as the mild temperatures have lingered for a few days. Most of the snow has melted on the lake, so if you are headed this way pack your boots and ice cleats. Better toss in the mittens too… temperatures are scheduled to plummet here soon.

As we look ahead this week… Happy New Year!  (What’s your New Year’s resolution? Ours is to FISH MORE!) If that’s the case for you too… we still have openings for 2025 winter ice fishing reservations. Give us a call and head our way soon!

LAKE OF THE WOODS ICE FISHING. BALLARD'S RESORT.

Hey Sportsfans!

It has been another good week on Lake of the Woods! A lot of Ballard’s Resort employees, and their families, have been out on the lake this week… pretty nice perk of the job.

Fishing has remained steady throughout the week. Stay patient, the mid-day bite has been better than the morning bite.  Full buckets of fish have been coming in, but slot fish and overs have been hard to come by.

The guides have continued to check ice conditions daily and are seeing 13+ inches of ice. As the temperatures warm up over the next few days, the guides will continue to monitor the ice.

Special shoutout to Carol. She celebrated her birthday on the ice yesterday. Can you think of a better birthday trip?? I don’t think so.

That’s all for this week… Merry Christmas and SET THE HOOK!

DECEMBER 15TH BALLARD’S RESORT FISHING REPORT

December 15 -

Hey Sportsfans!

The 1997 Geo Tracker SUV ambled its way across Four-Mile Bay, carrying two “ice bumpkin” anglers seeking FRESH-WILD-WALLEYES. Their destination? Big Traverse Bay… Lake of the Woods.

When they reached the crossing at Pine Island there was a green-light-go posted the previous day by the fishing guides at Ballard’s Resort. Early season ice conditions were excellent (12” to 13”) and indications of a midday bite had them as jittery as a couple of grasshoppers in a jar.

Inside Ballard’s fish house #37… There were holes opened… Heat turned on… And a pleasant view of the ice-covered landscape offered through large panes of windows. Cold outside. Warm inside. But how HOT was the bite?

There was a pink UV stop sign lure attached to some 8# monofilament line wrapped around an ice fishing rod. This is a storied presentation, tipped with a fathead minnow, and supported by a pencil style foam bobber.

Three… Two… One… Down the ice fishing hole went the bait and gleaming aspirations for a successful day on the ice.

NOW it is your turn to finish this story! The ice fishing season is officially underway at Ballard’s Resort. You have options for dates, availability, and special package rates.

The time is NOW for you to come and SET THE HOOK!
