Hey Sportsfans!

You know the rules…
1) Always listen to your Captain.

2) Absolutely no bananas on the boat.

Had a close call this morning on Capt. Tanner’s boat, but luckily the bananas were left on shore and the group had their limit by 10:30am. Then the big fish started rolling in…

It has been windy here this week, nothing new there. How’s the bite been? Gauging by the coolers of fish coming in each day, you need to be at the right spot at the right time.

Overall, the general consensus has been, fishing is best in 28′-32′ of water in the transition areas of rocks to mud.

Over the last few days, there about been rumors of 150+ fish days. Fishing tale or truth?? We may never know, but that’s June fishing.

MAY 26

Hey Sportsfans  –

Back again with another weekly update…

The start of the week was promising (#killerbite) but as high winds and low temperatures rolled in, fishing was tough.

Dirty water, stirred up by high current, has turned the close to home bite off. When the SportCrafts could, they spread out across the lake… some still bopping around the islands, others heading west.

As we creep into June, we can only hope the fishing heats up as fast as the temperatures.

That’s all for this week. #SETTHEHOOK

ISLAND TIME

Hey Sportsfans!

We were packed to the brim this week thanks to a bunch of old time friends who made yet another trip up to see us.

We had a big ole fishing contest running this week. Someone claimed the grand prize for largest walleye with a 30.5″ fish… can that be confirmed Capt. Dunn??

One of the groups up here this week, towed up their own boats, lodged with us, and reeled in a bunch of fish… including Brian’s 29″ walleye.

According to Milton, Captain of the charter in slip #14, pack the extra bag of shiners… fishing is good and you’re going to need them to pick through all the saugers.

The guides have been on island time this week… Knight Island and Bridges Island that is. Fishing in 25-28′, the guides are starting to see slot fish rolling in.

Water temperatures are warmer than usual for this time of year (mid 50s). QUESTION OF THE WEEK… when will we see the mud bite explode?

That’s all for this week. #SETTHEHOOK

2024 OPENING WEEKEND (RECAP)

Walleye fishing | Stay at Ballards Resort Lake of the Woods, MN
Walleye fishing | Stay at Ballards Resort Lake of the Woods, MN
Hey Sportsfans!

Walleye fishing on opening weekend, Lake of the Woods, Ballard’s Resort… is there a better time to be had?

For the second year in a row, opening day has had favorable weather… ask anyone who has been visiting for years, that rarely happens.

In case you haven’t heard, the boys are back in town, and here’s what they are saying…

Capt. ZB…  He’s on the big fish. Just look at the picture he sent in with Ron and his 28″ walleye.

Capt. Andy… “Go with eye candy Andy, he is on fire.” Realistically, Capt. Andy has found success catching eater sized fish in 20-26′.

Capt. Tim… It’s an exciting time to be on the lake. When fishing close to home, there is an element of surprise, never knowing what species of fish you might reel in next. Walleye, perch, northern, sturgeon… it’s anyone’s guess. Capt. Tim also mentioned something about the male walleyes squirting a certain substance all over the guides… but I don’t know how far in depth we should go on that topic.

After two days of fishing, the guides are starting to spread out. Some staying in the Rainy River, others venturing as far as Knight Island. End of story, the fish are biting and the excitement for the season is over the top!
