Set the Hook! (Weekly Report)

Hello Sportsfans…

Last week the guides brought the houses closer to home, dropping them 8 miles out from Pine Island. In one swift shift to the South, the houses were on fresh ice and a short 25 minute ride from the lodge (more time for fishing!).

What’s happening back at camp?

-After a day of fishing, many of our guests are choosing to have their fresh fillets dropped in the fryers (while enjoying a beverage or two).

-Snow is falling and temperatures remain cold… While it may not feel like spring yet, we are taking reservations for spring fishing. Give us a call to hear about our special off-season rates!

-A few of our highly requested cabins (cabins #10-14) are getting a facelift.

-The Riverside Dining Room will be open through Saturday, March 18th. Our bar (and kitchen) will remain open through off-season with limited hours.

L O Dub Weekly Report

Hello Sportsfans…  Rusty Flathers here with the latest L O Dub weekly report.

A red rooster barks at the sunrise.  Anxious anglers pace in front of The Ballard.  Most days are the same:  breakfasts, Bombardier departures, ice fishing, catching fish, return to the resort, more festivities per eating-drinking-storytelling, lights out (bedtime), and repeat the next day.

That’s the way uh-huh uh-huh, KC and the Sunshine Band, we like it!

Hey, has anyone noticed we are TWO DAYs out from the beginning of March?!?!

– Only two more weeks of ice fishing per house rentals and guide service.

– Only two more weeks to shake and bake and get yourself here for some ice fishing grooviness.

– Winter is still very much “a thing” here at frozen tundra headquarters.

Celebrity quote for this week, Anna says: You can’t catch ’em, if you’re not here.

Yes, truly wise, wise, wise words.  Thanks Anna.

The teeth of this week’s report?  We are still very much “up north”.  Success rates for walleyes and saugers are hit and miss.  Some would call it fishing.  Some would call it luck of the draw.  Others may boast their success based on fishing prowess.

Either way…  It’s FUN!

And now, thanks to Simon and Garfunkel, we return you to, the sounds of silence…

For whom the WALLEYE tolls (Ballard’s Resort)

Sneaking to the edge of the hole and peeking into the coffee stained water there were no signs of life.  Only bubbles…  A weirdly consistent flow of bubbles surfacing from depths far beneath and splattering in a frosty mist when they popped to the surface.

It was Walter.  Fearless, crafty, stealth-like in his pursuit of fresh bait and all things succulently related.  We could not see him.  Yet his presence was overwhelming.

Many have tried luring him with a hook…  Many have failed.

And for this…  We persist!  Someday we will celebrate the small victory (catch / photo / release) and Walter’s bell will toll.

It the meantime:
– average week of fishing activity on LOW.  We are again “way out there”, in more ways than one.  We are fishing Knights, Bridges and stretching toward the Garden.
– Nordo says: “we’re doing ok on the saugers GM,  I actually feel like we have a good school underneath us right now.”
– ice conditions and travel conditions remain favorable for the fourteen day forecast.  We plan to continue winter angling to mid-March.
– are you familiar with the MAY FISHING SPECIAL?  (81) days.  Let the good times roll, per Mick Jagger.

CATCH THIS (latest action on LOW)

Hello sportsfans!

What’s that?  Hold the line…  A lotta small fish (saugers) is what we are hearing this morning at the Ballard’s HQ / checkin / checkout front desk.  Enough to keep your bobber moving.  Enough for some FRESH-FISH.

Per the Bomber ride (how far off-shore are we), it’s a 2-beer trip to get off the lake at the end of the day!  Yes, we are “up north”.

What else:
 There’s a “Ballard-Guide-Mustache” contest being proposed .
We are gunning for mid-MARCH per the wrap up of the ice fishing season.  Try to get your dates in before 03/15/23.
Weekend cabin dates for spring river fishing (APRIL) are starting to flow.
EightyNineDays until the mid-MAY walleye opener (May Fishing Special).

Take it…  Take it…  Take it…
